This idea is taking directly from the art world.

Companies can look a lot more like art collectives in my opinion, as in why does the art world even exist? So some rich folks can invest in certain pieces that obtain insane values?

Well, I am not the first one to say that. Art serves a massive purpose, as in it is our culture. People who make art are absolutely thinking about things very deeply and then making them visible in the world. Exactly what we are trying to do here at Idle Hours.

The Arte-Util movement descirbes itself as "Arte Útil roughly translates into English as 'useful art' but it goes further suggesting art as a tool or device. Arte Útil draws on artistic thinking to imagine, create and implement tactics that change how we act in society."

For Arte-Idle we would change that to be "Arte Idle roughly translate into English as 'doing nothing art' but it goes further suggesting art as a tool for building community. Arte Idle draws on artistic thinking and movements to imagine, create and implement ideas that change how we spend time in society."

I'm still developing this idea, (all ideas always), but for now I'm thinking about it as a way to create, explore and imagine the folklore of the future. I hope this conveys my interest in the old ways, and making together with nature, but thinking very much about how it relates to the culture of today and more importantly our dream for the future.

More from Arte-Util:

"Whether through self-organised groups, individual initiatives or the rise of user generated content people are developing new methods and social formations to deal with issues that were once the domain of the state. Arte Útil case studies show how these initiatives are not isolated incidents, but part of a larger historical trajectory that is now shaping our contemporary world.

The notion of what constitutes Arte Útil has been arrived at via a set of criteria that was formulated by Tania Bruguera and curators at the Queens Museum, New York, Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven and Grizedale Arts, Coniston."

Arte Útil projects should:

1) Propose new uses for art within society
2) Use artistic thinking to challenge the field within which it operates
3) Respond to current urgencies

4) Operate on a 1:1 scale

5) Replace authors with initiators and spectators with users

6) Have practical, beneficial outcomes for its users

7) Pursue sustainability
8) Re-establish aesthetics as a system of transformation

To this I would add:

9) Pursue regeneration
10) Reclaim time and energy as currency
